Fine Southern Women

The air is fragrant
of jasmine flowers
while sitting here
for tea

The grass beneath
my feet
cools, as the
sun retreats...

Cucumber sandwiches
so petite
fine southern women
fanning from the heat
ever so shy
the eyes that peek

Waiting for their callers
gentlemen in sync
wrap around porches
is the place
ladies meet

Courting is done
from the time
of sixteen
fancy apparel
long dresses with corsets underneath

Fine southern women
clearly speak
with dignity and zest
insulting you down while smiling...

Fine southern women
they can't be beat
ladies of an era
understated to be the least.

Master Of Disguise

Intrusion diverts itself
in many shapes and sizes
it renders itself
in the smallest of ways
it hides in plain sight
no matter who it infringes upon...

How infuriating  and yet,
keep it tempered
for it's the kindness of heart
that welcomes it in

Time is not a problem
for it has no boundaries
politeness eludes as
more relevant to knowing you

It stays until it dwindles
and the silence is deafening
upon which in exiting
exasperation is comforting

When Your Life Is Not Your Own

When you no longer
have time to curl your hair
paint your nails, read a book
your life is not your own...

When you plan on cleaning
the yard, planting flowers,
watering for things to grow
your life is not your own...

When your planning the meals
prepping and cooking
cleaning up afterwards
your life is not your own...

When the kids have been fed
and the rides have been driven
and you're too tired to smile
your life is not your own...

When you have brushed your teeth
and folded the clothes
and you fell asleep on the way
to the drawers,
your life is not your own...

When the day has come
and retirement has settled
searching for the life
that you just can't remember
you reach for the book you've
been meaning to read
and smile as you fall into sleep.

Water From The Sky

The rain is not something
 to be dampened lightly
with dismissal of a lousy day

To some it is comfort
in sound, and others
it cleanses the sky that pollutes
our air

It is nourishment to our grounds
in dire need of moisture
deep beneath the surfaces
that makes everything grow

Rain is the shower
that cleanses the great outdoors
the cool refreshing smell
left lingering...

Rain is a blessing
a special gift abound
sometimes arriving in full force
destroying all around...

It is a life of passage
from time to time
announcing it's arrival
loud and crackling
accompanying in tunes
rain is said to be the tears of God
upset with all we do...

It is a new beginning
in it's wake of coming through.
